Global Mining Enterprise Improves Mobile Asset Management with SAP Service and Asset Manager
A global mining enterprise is one of the world’s largest producers of molybdenum and a significant copper producer. The company operates major mining assets across multiple continents, including one of the largest gold mines globally. It manages extensive operations in North and South America and employs approximately 27,000 people.
Project Background
Paper-based documents have long been the standard in asset-intensive industries. Work orders, manuals, and other critical asset-related data were printed, filled out, and stored in filing cabinets—making digital access impossible.
The enterprise sought to eliminate this paper-heavy process by implementing SAP® Service and Asset Manager, a mobile asset management app that integrates with other asset data sources.
The company had already deployed SAP Service and Asset Manager at several locations, and the benefits for field employees highlighted the inefficiencies of paper-based workflows.
Digitization > Paper Documents
With SAP Service and Asset Manager, field workers and supervisors now access documents and manuals digitally on Wi-Fi-enabled tablets.
Other advantages include:
- Eliminating six to eight hours per week spent printing documents
- Providing technicians with analytics to identify potential asset issues early
- Improving utilization of physical resources like trucks and tools
The Solution
The enterprise partnered with Rizing to implement SAP Service and Asset Manager, starting with an intentionally challenging pilot site.
Rizing connected the SAP mobile app to the company’s SAP ERP data, along with SharePoint and part-ordering integrations. The pilot was successful, and the enterprise is now rolling out the solution across all mining sites.
